THE 2016 Equus Awards function proved a memorable evening for Varsfontein, the farm taking home the hardware for champion three-year-old filly.
The stud was represented by not one, but two finalists in this fiercely contested category: Varsfontein-owned Bela-Bela (Dynasty) and farm-bred Juxtapose, a daughter of Judpot. Much to our delight, Bela-Bela got the nod and deservedly so, having completed the notable Gr.1 Woolavington 2000/Gr.2 Daisy Guineas, in addition to finishing third in the Gr.1 Paddock Stakes and sixth in the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July.
The half-sister to Champion Rabya is one of six stakes winners produced by broodmare extraordinaire, Mystic Spring, who likewise was honoured with an Outstanding Achievement Award.
